GSO petition garners more than 1,700 signatures

1,742

This past fall, we launched a petition calling on the Government of Canada to “continue to equip Canadian students with the essential global skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing labour market through the renewal of the Global Skills Opportunity program.”

We had set a target of gathering 1,500 signatures during the petition’s publication period (October 16, 2024 to January 14, 2025).

We are thrilled that 1,742 Canadians from all provinces and two of the territories signaled their support for the program.

As Parliament is prorogued until March 24, the petition will not be certified, presented or tabled in the House of Commons until the opening of the next parliamentary session later this year.

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition and shared it among their networks.

Farewell from the Global Skills Opportunity Program

Despite an impressive track record and our best advocacy efforts, the federal government has not renewed funding for Global Skills Opportunity. As a result, the program officially ceased operations March 31, 2025.
