CALAREO International Research Mobility Experience (IRME)

The CALAREO Consortium includes five member universities: Vancouver Island University, Lakehead University, York University, Carleton University, and Memorial University. CALAREO was formed to support collaboration with Latin American partner institutions. As a non-traditional destination, Latin America is relatively unknown and our students rarely consider the opportunities available there. Using data collected through our pilot project, we will develop an evidence-based program to promote Latin America and fund an estimated 138 students to participate in various research-focused mobility opportunities (medium- and short-term research internships/co-ops, as well as field schools). Consortium-to-consortium partnerships in Mexico and Colombia provide the framework for developing programs and services inclusive to students with disabilities and indigenous students. The project is co-funded by Mitacs and CALAREO.
