Intercultural Communication, Leadership, Adaptability
My GSO experience significantly propelled my academic and professional career. My journey abroad transformed me into a more globally-minded, socially-conscious, adaptable, and curious individual. Working with colleagues from different countries exposed me to a wide range of healthcare systems, policies, and practices, allowing me to gain an in-depth understanding of the complexities and challenges involved in healthcare on a global scale. These conversations challenged my preconceived notions and unconscious biases and encouraged me to critically think and consider alternative viewpoints. Immersing myself in different cultures enriched my academic learning and prepared me to be a more well-rounded and culturally aware professional who can positively contribute to public health. This experience distinguished me from other applicants when applying to master’s programs, resulting in my acceptance to some of the most competitive public health programs in Canada and Sweden. It provided me the freedom to choose the program that best aligned with my career goals. Moreover, my international learning opportunities made me a more competitive candidate for scholarships. I am proud to have been awarded the Canadian Graduate Scholarship, the most prestigious scholarship for master’s students in our nation. Additionally, the skills I gained through my GSO experience opened the doors for collaborations with the World Health Organization in Geneva and opportunities to present at the Oxford Global Health and Bioethics International Conference. In sum, my GSO experience was pivotal in achieving these academic accomplishments. Without the support of the GSO scholarship, I am not confident I would have reached my current professional and academic standing.
